Twelve Capital Event Update – 17 August 2020

Hurricane situation
There are currently no active hurricanes in the Atlantic. Whilst there has been some recent activity with tropical depression Josephine active last week, it stayed out at sea and by the evening of Sunday, 16 August had petered out. Currently Tropical Storm Kyle is approximately 800 miles east of New York City, moving in an easterly direction towards Europe.

There are two disturbances in the Atlantic, one is located around 500 miles east of Bridgetown, Barbados, and the other around 600 miles west of Dakar, Senegal. Both have a low-to-medium probability of developing into tropical depressions over the course of the next week.

In the Eastern Pacific there are two systems active; Tropical Depression Fausto, and Tropical Storm Genevieve. Fausto is located around 800 miles west of the southern tip of Baha California, Mexico and is moving in westerly direction where it is predicted to stay at tropical depression strength for the next few days. Genevieve is approximately 300 miles south of Acapulco, Mexico where it is moving in a north-westerly direction. It is predicted to maintain this path and strengthen into a Hurricane over the next few days; although currently it is not predicted to make landfall in Mexico.

There is a disturbance located approximately 800 miles south of Hawaii, USA that has a reasonable probability of turning into a tropical depression over the course of the next few days.
